ARH & IDRF have been conducting various community outreach activities in Chennai and sub urban areas of Chennai. Many such activities have been organized in both rural & urban areas of other districts of the state as well. These community based outreach services include
- Diabetes awareness raising through screening & detection camps
- Educational campaigns / seminars
In collaboration with Govt. and private sectors, IDRF has conducted many programs which are as follows
- Liaison with Chennai Corporation
- Jointly with Chennai Corporation, IDRF has been conducting health education seminars on “Life style Modification” for the healthcare personnel of Chennai corporation hospitals. The seminar per se includes practicum session, awareness video shows on Diabetes and interactive sessions etc.
- Nearly 1000 health care personnel of all the 10 corporation zonal hospitals have been educated on prevention & management of diabetes in the year 2009 – 2010. c) Jointly with Chennai Corporation, IDRF has coordinated with the woman welfare health camps conducted in all the 10 corporation zonal hospitals in the year 2009-2010.
- Totally 597 individuals were screened for diabetes. Out of which 51 were diagnosed as diabetic and 37 were diagnosed as pre-diabetic.
- Liaison with Women Self help Group
We have been conducting health education seminars on “Prevention of Diabetes” & “Life style Modification” for the Women Self Help Group. As we know that women play a major role in a family. By educating women on the importance of diet and physical activity in the prevention of diabetes, they will be able to transfer the knowledge to their family and help preventing diabetes.

Under World Diabetes Foundation Project, IDRF has conducted various types of programs on diabetes prevention and awareness.
